Dr. Jeevan Marashinghe is a highly skilled gynaecologist with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery ( Laparoscopic and robotic). He is being regarded as a capable and someone with safe hand among other Gynaecologists  and trainees. With a focus on women’s health, he offers a range of procedures designed to improve overall health while prioritising patient comfort and efficient recovery. His patient-centred approach ensures that every treatment plan is tailored to meet individual needs.

Minimal Access Surgery

Minimal access surgery, like laparoscopy or Robotic surgery, offers significant benefits for endometriosis treatment. These benefits include a definitive diagnosis through direct visualization of endometrial lesions, the ability to both diagnose and treat the condition in one procedure, less pain and scarring, faster recovery times, and potentially improved fertility outcomes.

Gynaecological Laparoscopy

Diagnostic laparoscopy in gynaecology is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to examine the organs inside the abdomen and pelvis, primarily to diagnose and sometimes treat certain conditions. It involves making small incisions to insert a laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera, to visualize the area. This technique offers several advantages over traditional open surgery, including faster recovery, less pain, and smaller scars, but it also has potential drawbacks.

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a procedure where a thin, telescope-like instrument (hysteroscope) is inserted into the uterus to diagnose or treat problems. It can be used for both diagnosis and minimally invasive surgery, offering faster recovery and fewer complications compared to traditional surgery.

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. A laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive approach that involves making small incisions in the abdomen and using a laparoscope to guide the surgery. This technique offers several advantages over traditional open abdominal surgery, including reduced pain, faster recovery, and smaller scars.

Laparoscopic Myomectomy

Laparoscopic myomectomy involves making a few small incisions (typically 3-4) in the abdomen. A laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera and light, is inserted through one incision to visualize the uterus and fibroids on a monitor. Specialized instruments are then inserted through the other incisions to carefully remove the fibroids. The fibroids are either removed in pieces through the small incisions or extracted through a larger incision in a technique called morcellation.

Laparoscopic Adenomyomectomy

Laparoscopic adenomyomectomy with flap repair is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat adenomyosis, a condition where the uterine lining grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. It involves removing the affected tissue through small incisions, followed by reconstruction of the uterine wall using a flap technique to restore its integrity. This approach aims to relieve symptoms like heavy bleeding and pain while preserving the uterus for potential future pregnancies.

Vaginal Hysterectomy

A vaginal hysterectomy with repair is a surgical procedure where the uterus is removed through the vagina and vaginal walls are repaired to address issues like prolapse. It’s generally a less invasive option compared to abdominal or laparoscopic hysterectomies, offering benefits like faster recovery, less pain, and reduced scarring. However, it may not be suitable for all conditions, and Jeevan will discuss the suitability and potential benefits in an individual basis with clear diagrams.

Abdominal Hysterectomy

An abdominal hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus through an incision in the abdomen. It can be a treatment for various conditions like large fibroids, endometriosis, or in rare situations, cancers of the uterus. It involves a larger incision, longer recovery, and carries risks like infection, bleeding, and damage to surrounding organs.
